Publishers Marketplace
http://www.PublishersMarketplace.com
Join PM and you can get a daily e-mail listing of what deals have taken place in the book industry. You'll see what kind of book sold, what editor bought it and the agent who represented the author. This is good information because you'll see immediately who is representing your type of writing and--more importantly--who is buying it! This can also be a good place to search for freelance editors and copyeditors. They have postings.
Publishers Weekly
http://www.PublishersWeekly.com
The trade publication of the book industry. It's 131 years old, so they better know their stuff. Reviews, bestsellers lists and lots of information on trends in publishing.
Literary Marketplace
http://www.LiteraryMarketplace.com
This is a comprehensive database of the book industry. Search for publishers, editors, agents, distributors, the works!
Association of Author's Representatives (AAR)

2006 Guide to Literary Agents
If you decide that having an agent is the best move for your career, this book is a great place to start your search. Writer's Digest publishes this hefty tome listing more than 600 non-fee charging agents. All of the agents listed also adhere to the ethical guides established by the AAR (mentioned above). So in one book you get the security of knowing the agent you're dealing with is on the level, plus you get a full understanding of what material the agent represents. That means you won't be sending your manuscript out on a fruitless--and costly mission.
How to apply for an ISBN: To get an ISBN you can go to http://www.isbn.org. You'll find the application there as well as information on where to purchase your bar code.
